About the role

The USV Maritime Operations Specialist (Training) is responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and effective operation of Kraken’s Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) fleet, with a particular focus on training, competency development, and standardised operational practices. The role integrates technical understanding, operational discipline, regulatory compliance, and instructional delivery to ensure that all USV operators trained are fully proficient and mission ready.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver training programmes for USV operators, including onboarding, vessel systems, mission execution, and emergency procedures.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of training materials, SOPs, lesson plans, and practical assessments.
  • Conduct supervised and unsupervised training sessions on vessel operation, remote control systems, navigation procedures, and payload handling.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of operational missions, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulatory frameworks.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of the MCA Workboat Code (including Annex 2), SOLAS requirements, and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to operational readiness by supporting vessel checks, risk assessments, passage planning, and system testing during training evolutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to new and developing operators, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, software, and technical teams to support knowledge transfer and operator competency around new technologies and payload systems.
  • Assist in maintaining training records, assessment logs, competency matrices, and certification tracking for audits and internal reporting.

What we're looking for

  • Commercially endorsed maritime qualification to operate vessels under the MCA Workboat Code.
  • Strong understanding of maritime operations, navigation principles, and vessel safety.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to deliver structured training and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and situational awareness.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Experience operating USVs or complex remote systems.
  • Knowledge of MCA Workboat Code and SOLAS requirements.
  • Instructional design or competency‑based training experience.
  • Maritime engineering or technical background.
