About the role

We’re looking for a skilled Laminator to support the safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacture of composite components used in marine vessels.

You’ll play a key role in producing, repairing, and finishing GRP and composite structures—including hulls, decks, and internal fittings—ensuring all work meets stringent technical and quality standards.

Working closely with engineering, operations, and quality teams, you’ll help deliver products on time while maintaining a strong focus on safety, precision, and continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing

  • Fabricating GRP components using hand lay-up, wet lay-up, vacuum bagging, and related techniques
  • Preparing moulds, applying release agents, and ensuring surfaces are lamination-ready
  • Mixing and applying resins, gelcoats, and catalysts to specification
  • Trimming, cutting, drilling, and finishing composite components
  • Repairing and modifying GRP structures, including structural and cosmetic work
  • Ensuring correct fibre orientation, resin ratios, and laminate thickness
  • Safely operating hand and power tools (sanders, grinders, rollers, etc.)
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and compliant working environment
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet production deadlines and standards
  • Completing work orders accurately and on time
  • Inspecting equipment and carrying out preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshooting technical issues to minimise downtime
  • Supporting, training, and mentoring team members where required

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience in GRP/composite fabrication (ideally in the marine sector)
  • Strong knowledge of fiberglass and composite manufacturing techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and lay-up schedules
  • Experience with hand lay-up and wet lay-up (vacuum infusion or RTM desirable)
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of safe handling of resins, chemicals, and composite materials
  • Physically capable of manual handling tasks

Desirable experience

  • NVQ / City & Guilds in Composite Manufacturing, Marine Engineering, or similar
  • Experience with plug and mould making
  • Knowledge of carbon fibre and epoxy systems
  • Background in boatbuilding or marine repair
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
