About the role
The Junior Technical Author is responsible for supporting the creation, maintenance, and control of technical documentation for Kraken products and internal processes. This includes User Manuals and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) documentation such as maintenance documentation and spares lists for systems, as well as supporting the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Nomuda Visual Factory
This is a permanent, full‑time role suited to an individual at the early stages of their technical authoring career, with strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and an interest in working within an engineering‑led environment.
What you'll be doing
- Support the creation and maintenance of User Manuals for Kraken products
- Assist in the development of ILS documentation, including:
- Maintenance plan
- Maintenance manual
- Spares lists and parts catalogues
- Supporting descriptions for service and support activities
- Work on documentation ensuring information is clear, accurate, and easy to follow
- Support the writing and upkeep of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within Visual Factory
- Collation of technical information from engineers, manufacturing teams, and other stakeholders
- Update documentation in line with engineering changes and configuration updates
- Ensure documentation follows agreed templates, standards, and version control processes
- Assist with document reviews and approval workflows
- Support the organisation, storage, and retrieval of technical documentation
- Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation practices and processes
What we're looking for
- Degree, qualification or equivalent experience in Technical Authoring, Engineering, or related field
- Strong written English and attention to detail
- Ability to understand and interpret technical information
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications
- Willingness to learn and develop technical authoring skills within an engineering environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Desirable experience
- Experience creating or maintaining technical documentation
- Experience within the marine, maritime, or engineering industry
- Experience using Visual Factory or similar documentation/visualisation tools
- Familiarity with JIRA for task and workflow management
- Understanding of User Manuals, maintenance documentation and ILS concepts
- Familiarity with SOPs or process documentation
- Experience using document management systems or authoring tools
- Interest in defence, robotics, or advanced engineering systems
